Picking the rare gems out of a sea of crap.... so you don't have to!

A little user survey

July 4th 2009 21:26
The lovely Ms. Samaritan has brought it to my attention that the dark-red-on-black colour scheme I have going here is somewhat hard to read.

First question: Do you agree?

Second question: If so, what colour scheme do you think would be more appropriate?

That is all. Maybe I should have called it a very little user survey.

Oh I LOVE user surveys, especially on "evil pleasures", but I can hardly read your red on black colour scheme...and it's kinda freakin' me out what with the hell flames and all.
OK..I'm almost totally kidding. It is a bit hard to see... harder without my glasses on.
My only suggestions would be maybe a bolder font,or scrap the red and black altogether and go for more of a pink and purple contrast. You could lose the flames and go with some cute fluffy bunnies or lol cats.
My final suggestion would be to completely ignore my input and choose something you can live with.
Hope this helps...or not...whatever.8)

I really like the look of your site, and I think black and red is cool, but the font is a little difficult to read. I would suggest a bolder font, brighter red, or bigger font. Whatever color of red the links are on this page are MUCH easier to read because they're a brighter color. I'm not just referring to the bold links in the sidebars, but also just your regular links, like the one right below the post that directs you to the next post. That color is workin' for me!

Green font like what is displayed in your intro looks nice too. Although the green/red combination taken too far could begin to look a lot like Christmas!

Truthfully, it really isn't that bad, because I have bad eyes, and I can still read it. It's just a little squinty. If you brighten it up a smidge it will make a huge difference!

Deanna, I'll take it all under consideration

Natalina, I've jacked up the brightness on the text now, can you tell the difference? I like having the titles slightly brighter than the text just to differentiate it a bit, but if the posts aren't bright enough I'll make them all the same bright red colour.

Samaritan, if you're out there... is this a bit better?

Hi Someone,

Yes, it is better. I noticed it as soon as I went onto your blog. In fact, I spent a couple of minutes wondering why it was easier to read and thinking maybe I had just been tired on all the previous times. And then I read your comment that you had increased the brightness and it all made sense.

It still doesn't stand out a great deal. But I don't need to spend five minutes looking at each word in order to figure out what it says. And it's much easier to go back and find things in the text, which was almost impossible before. If you like the dark red on black, I'd stick with how it is now.

Also, does anyone know how to change the color of hyperlinks in the post without changing the color of the links in the sidebars and whatnot? I've been fooling around with the advanced themes page and can't seem to figure it out

Hi Someone!
I don't even know what hyperlinks are. Hope that helps!
It's MUCH easier to read now btw.Still kinda freaked by the flames.Would one fuzzy bunny be out of the question?(No! NOT in the flames!)

I can't help you with the hyperlinks either, Someone. I know you can do it on a post by post basis, but I don't know any other way.

I'm not sure which bunny I'd rather run into in a dark alley... have to carry around some carrots

Well...I really didn't think that whole bunny thing through...now did I?
I probably should have specified no freakishly enormous, terrifying, human chasing,sharp-toothed, baby eating rabbits.
I won't be surprised if I don't sleep for awhile on account of the night terrors, and I'm definitely going to need some therapy... but that was probably inevitable.
** Note to self ** Be careful what you ask for.
Oh,and THOSE "bunnies" definitely CAN go in the flames.

I like the red on black, it suits your site and reflects the content.

However, for my old eyes, I would prefer it in a size 4 and/or in bold.

Cute site.

Thanks for the feedback, Lis... although for a site about B-grade horror, I'm not sure cute is what I'm going for

This colour scheme is a little tough on the eyes and fails to have words jump off the page...thats why i opted for bright yellow for text against the black and red tone of my on site
